TORONTO – As Barrick Gold works feverishly to ready the Pascua-Lama gold mine for production in 2013, the company has released a gallery of photographs from the site that straddles the Chile-Argentina border.

The development of Pascua-Lama has been a monumental effort. An international treaty was written to facilitate the movement of people and equipment as they travel across an international border in the pit. Special protection for glaciers was established. The challenges of working at extreme altitudes were constant.

At stake are 17.9 million oz of gold and 676 million oz of silver. Recovering it is a undertaking worthy of the world’s largest gold miner.

Enjoy the gallery of construction photos from Pascua-Lama: Building Pascua-Lama. And many thanks to Barrick for making them available.
