Spectacular
hen famed comedian, actor and author Billy Connolly documented his recent 3,567 km trek across Canada’s Far North, he summed up his travels by simply saying “Spectacular.”
After more than 10 weeks of filming his way through Labrador, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, parts of The Northwest Passage, he ended his journey in Yukon… a place he called “Magic” because of what he saw, but couldn’t believe! Connolly came to, then left, the territory loaded with memories, reels of film and reams of notes that he eventually turned into his book Journey to the Edge of the World. But unlike Billy Connolly who briefly visited the territory, thousands of more adventurers just like him are discovering Yukon for good; and especially for all the good(s) it has to offer.
As most of the mining world knows by now, Canada’s Yukon Territory contains one of the greater varieties of untouched minerals on the planet. Many parts of the territory have never been touched by humans and those that have, have produced grades and quantities of minerals found nowhere else.
Mountains loaded with gold, silver and copper dominate the horizons and protect the borders, while zinc, lead and a host of other valuable commodities line the lower slopes and valleys. The wealth of minerals is unprecedented, and thanks to the cooperation and understanding by Yukon’s Governments and First Nations, the exploration and development of these resources is now happening.
In fact, aside from the minerals themselves, many explorationists say it’s the governing bodies’ regulatory and permitting policies that has convinced them to invest in prospecting and developing in Yukon.
The companies featured on the following pages represent just a few of the organizations that are investing in Yukon mining and exploration and as you will read, you’ll see why. The resources are plentiful, the reserves are promising, but most of all, the returns on investment are rich and rewarding!
