MOLYBDENUM MINING: Roca starts rehab work at Max mine

BRITISH COLUMBIA - Roca Mines of Vancouver has announced the start of rehabilitation work at its Max molybdenum mine near Revelstoke. Damage to temporary ventilation bulkheads and landings within the ventilation raise and manway was caused by what the company says was an "airblast" in late September. Permanent bulkheads and infrastructure were not damaged.

Working from upper levels to lower elevations, mine crews will inspect, repair and upgrade the ventilation bulkheads and manway raise components as required. This will not only ensure that the manway is safe for egress, but will also improve the overall ventilation system in the mine, said Roca.

The MAX mine reached commercial production in April 2008, and earlier this year Roca received provincial permission to boost production to 1,000 t/d.
