MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: Alderon, Fortuna Silver and Golder

Alderon Resource Corp. of Vancouver has named Matt Simpson is new COO, effective mid-September 2010. He holds both an MBA and BSc in chemical engineering from Queen's University. His most recent post has been general mine manager at Iron Ore Co. of Canada.

Jeffrey Franzen has joined the board of Vancouver's Fortuna Silver Mines. He is president of Franzen Mineral Engineering, and has held leadership roles in the British Columbia & Yukon Chamber of Mines, Mineral Deposit Division of the Geological Association of Canada and Vancouver Mineral Exploration Group. He is currently chairman of Terrane Metals.

Golder Associates of Toronto has tapped Bill Shaw to be its global mining sector leader. Golder is celebrating 50 years as a consulting company.
