ONTARIO - Noront Resources of Toronto and the Webequie First Nation have signed an exploration agreement in respect to the communities ancestral lands in the James Bay Lowlands. The deal includes a memorandum of understanding (MOU) which sets out protocols for conducting exploration activities on Webequie lands and reinforces Noront's intention to enter into a comprehensive impact benefit agreement in the future.
Noront is also working on a similar MOU with the Marten Falls First Nation. The company and that community signed an exploration agreement in April 2009.
In 2007 Noront made the first discovery in what is called the Ring of Fire, igniting a staking rush. It is investigating its high-grade nickel-copper-platinum-palladium Eagle One deposit and its Blackbird chromite discovery.
