The Ontario Mining Association has taken issue with our inclusion of mines as "enclosed workplaces." Manager of communications Peter McBride wrote:
"As far as enclosed space regulations are concerned, a mine is not an enclosed space. It is designed, constructed and operated as a facility for humans to work. The important distinction is that a mine itself is not an enclosed space, however, there may be confined spaces within a mine.
"With the harmonization of regulations for confined space entry the definition of a confined space did not change as it pertains to a mine. The CSA definition of a confined space does not align with the definition within the Ontario legislation for mines and mining plants."
