VANCOUVER — Fordia, the Montreal-based drilling specialist, took advantage of Roundup 2010 held earlier this month to unveil three new products – a self-locking core barrel, a tougher core bit, and a new diamond drilling rod grease.
OWL (outstanding wireline) is Fordia's new coring system design. The advantage is that the self-locking latches cannot be accidently retracted, thus preventing the inadvertent loss of samples. The company noted that it believes the OWL Self-Lock head assembly is unique in the drilling industry.
The Hero 3 core bit has a new matrix specially designed for soft and abrasive ground. It is particularly suited to sandstone, shale or limestone formations. In field tests in throughout the Americas, Fordia's new core bit lasted two to three times longer than conventional bits. Hero 3 is available in standard and turbo-pie-shape configurations and either 13-mm or 16-mm diamond impregnation height.
Fordia's new Black Widow is an extra-tacky grease that performs in even the harshest of applications and will not liquefy as other greases do. The grease is available in regular or biodegradable versions.
