LONDON, UK — According to the International Labour Organization, 160 million people suffer occupational illnesses every year around the globe. To reduce the number of such cases in the mineral industry, the International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM) has released its "Good Practice Guidance on Occupational Health Risk Assessment (HRA)" as an information resource for those conducting or commissioning HRAs.
The publication offers information on three types of assessments. Check lists and step-by-step guides are provided for the design and implementation of HRAs. It describes 13 key steps for carrying out a HRA, from identifying the health hazards and their effects to assessing exposure levels and analyzing the effectiveness of existing control measures.
The 68-page booklet may be downloaded as a PDF file or ordered as a hard copy at www.ICMM.com.
