Remarkable performance at Black Lake mine

A crew at LAB Chrysotile has attained a level of health and safety never before reached in the company’s history. One of the crews at the open pit mine in the Black Lake division, at Thetford Mines in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, has worked more than 500,000 hours without a lost time accident. This record dates back to the crew’s last accident on Apr. 23, 1996.

Working night and day, at times in difficult weather conditions, the group has avoided all accidents while doing its job. The crew is under the supervision of Donald Houle, assisted by Gaston Nadeau and Jacques Carrier and several previous foremen over the years. The achievement was possible because of a sustained effort, concentration at all times, and the participation of each crew member plus the support from the other crews. The company hosted the crew and their partners at a celebratory dinner in early December.
