Rick Alexander has joined Vancouver-based Adanac Molybdenum Corp. as vice- president project development. The company is developing the world-class Ruby Creek project.

Agnico-Eagle Mines of Toronto has made several recent promotions. Donald Allan becomes senior vice-president corporate development; Alain Blackburn is now senior vice-president of exploration. David Garofalo becomes senior vice-president finance and CFO, and the new general counsel, senior vice- president legal and corporate secretary is Greg Laing.

Mining engineer Curtis Clarke is the new president and CEO of Behre Dolbear, the mineral industry consulting company.

Upon his retirement, Arnie Hillier has been replaced as chairman of Saskatoon, Sask.-based Claude Resources by Josef Spross. Judy Stoetereau has become exploration manager, and Philip Ng is now the vice-president operations.

Robin Adair has been appointed vice-president exploration of Coastport Capital, Donner Metals and Knight Resources, all of Vancouver. He had over 25 years experience working with Falconbridge and Noranda.

Toronto-based Crowflight Minerals has named Greg Collins its vice-president exploration. Additionally, Ken Marcinyshyn was named mine manager and Dale Lane mill manager for the company’s Bucko Lake nickel project in northern Manitoba.

The new vice-president of exploration at Toronto’s Excellon Resources is John Sullivan. He is a graduate of Queen’s University at Kingston and most recently a senior geologist with Watts, Griffis and McOuat.

GLR Resources of Kirkland Lake, Ont., has named John Orr its new COO.

Vancouver-based Goldcorp has given the job of COO to Steve Reid, who was formerly the company’s executive vice- president for U.S. and Canadian operations. Chuck Jeannes is now executive vice-president of corporate development. Jim Voorhees, formerly COO of Glamis Gold, and Russell Barwick, former COO and executive vice-president, are leaving the company.

Toronto-headquartered Gold Eagle Mines, created by the recent merger of Exall Resources and Southern Star Resources, has given the position of president and CEO to Simon Lawrence. The company also announced it has made Brent Peters its CFO.

Golden China Resources Corp. of Toronto has two new faces in its office. Frank Potter, whose career includes such posts as executive director of the World Bank and the International Finance Corp., has been named chairman. Greg Starr is now the president and CEO. The announcements were made following the resignation of Douglas Betts from the positions.

Purepoint Uranium of Toronto has hired Dale Huffman, formerly of Areva, as its vice-president of field operations.

The Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources & Wildlife has named Robert Marquis as the new general manager of Gologie Qubec. He replaces Alain Simard.

Vancouver-based Starfield Resources has appointed Andr J. Douchane as president and CEO, effective Feb. 1, 2007.

John Kearney has been named the new president and CEO of Montreal’s Sulliden Exploration. Javier Fernandez-Concha Stucker is now vice-president of the company as well as president of its South American subsidiaries. The new exploration manager for South America is Marco Murazzi. Additionally, Jacques Trottier has been named deputy chairman.

Calgary’s Uravan Minerals has named Dr. Allan Miller as vice-president of exploration and Ian R. Fraser as senior geologist.

Ursa Major Minerals of Toronto has named Veikko Koskela as its operations manager for the Shakespeare nickel-copper project near Sudbury, Ont. Koskela was vice-president of mining operations for Outokumpu Mines, also of Toronto.

Obituary

Joseph J. (Joe) McDonough died peacefully at his home on Dec. 17 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in 1933 into a family already involved in mining. His father, Joseph McDonough Sr., raised money in New York to start up Madsen Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. Its main property was the very rich Madsen gold mine in the Red Lake area of northwest Ontario.

As a young man in the 1950s, Joe worked as a fieldman for his father’s company on projects across Ontario. He later worked as a stock broker and more recently was involved in commercial car fleet leasing.
