Orders for 28 haul trucks

Canadian Mining Journal Staff | April 1, 2006 | 12:00 am

Liebherr Mining Equipment Co. of Newport News, Va., recently received two large orders for Ultra Class T 282 B AC-drive trucks.

The Cortez Joint Venture gold mine in Nevada, owned by Barrick Gold and Rio Tinto, bought 16 of the trucks to be delivered in 2006-2007. They join the eight trucks purchased in 2004. The newly ordered trucks will be supplied with MTU/DDC 20-V engines with 3,650 GHP, the most powerful engine available today.

Syncrude-Canada, Ltd., in Fort McMurray, Alta., placed an order for 12 more of the trucks, bringing their fleet total to 27. The trucks transport overburden and oil sand. Syncrude’s trucks, delivered with heated bodies, are powered by MTU/DDC 20-V engines rated at 3,650 GHP. For further information, visit www.liebherr.com.
