Rodney N. Thomas, P.Geol., has been appointed CEO of Toronto-based Diadem Resources Ltd. in additional to being president of the company. Paul A. Carroll continues as non-executive chairman of the board.

Toronto-based Breakwater Resources has named George Pirie its new president and CEO. A graduate of Laurentian University, he held increasingly senior positions at Placer Dome since 1985. Pirie has also recently been appointed a director of Paladin Resources of Perth, Western Australia.

Canarc Resources of Vancouver has announced the following appointments to its senior management team. Bruce Bried joins the company as VP mining and will divide his time in this role between Canarc and Endeavour as needed. James Moors moves up to the position of VP exploration to focus on the Benzdorp and New Polaris properties. Philip Yee adds the duties of CFO to his responsibilities as finance manager for the company.

Mike Basha is now the VP of exploration at Cornerstone Capital Resources of Mount Pearl, Nfld. He had over 15 years experience as a consulting geologist before joining Cornerstone in 2002.

Effective June 1, Mark Anderson becomes president and COO of Diavik Diamond Mines. Prior to joining Diavik, Anderson was COO of Kennecott Utah Copper.

Dynatec Corp. has tapped Dean R. Chambers for the position of senior VP and CFO. Previously, he was treasurer at Falconbridge Ltd.

Following its annual meeting, Vancouver-based Emgold Mining made the following appointments: William J. Witte as president and CEO; Ian Chang as VP project development; and Shannon Ross as CFO and secretary. Also, John King Burns was named non-executive chairman to replace Frank A. Lang, who remains a director of the company.

Yani Roditis is the new VP of projects for Gabriel Resources in Toronto. He comes to the company with international mining and development experience gained during 11 years with Barrick Gold.

Vancouver’s Taseko Mines has appointed Russell E. Hallbauer as president and CEO of the company. His 30 years of experience include senior positions at Teck Cominco at its Highland Valley and Antamina joint ventures and as general manager of coal operations at Bullmoose, Quintette and Elkview.

OBITUARY

On June 14, Canada’s mineral exploration community lost Peter DeLancey, whose free spirit, enthusiasm and boundless energy so well characterized the word “prospector”.

DeLancey was born in 1944 in the Maritimes. He graduated as a geologist from the University of Manitoba (BSc in 1965; M.Sc. in 1967). He joined Texas Gulf Sulphur (Kidd Creek) in 1969 and stayed for 17 years; there he developed an expertise and passion for VMS deposits.

After a brief spell at Imperial Metals, DeLancey joined the then-dormant company Atna Resources. In 1995 Atna and JV partner Westmin discovered the Wolverine deposit. In 2000 he handed over the reins at Atna to Dave Watkins and headed back to the bush.

Peter is survived by his wife Louise, daughters Heather and Jill and son Evan.
