PDAC: Diamonds will shine; rare metals, gold to spark interest
The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), established in 1932, represents the interests of Canada’s mineral exploration and development industry. Through its annual convention, the association provides its members with the opportunity to gather information as well as to network. Membership has now passed the 5,000 mark, with 5,000 individual and 200 corporate members.
PDAC is committed to ensuring that the country’s mining industry remains healthy, with the highest standards of technical, environmental, safety and social practices in Canada as well as abroad. The association plays an active role in advocating on behalf of the industry. Over the past year, PDAC has achieved success in this area, with the federal government’s creation of an exploration investment tax credit.
The Geoscience Committee has been instrumental in boosting the focus on geoscientific activities across Canada and the Securities Committee met with success in its efforts to convince the Ontario Securities Commission to keep its rule on exempt distributions. A new, industry-government committee has also succeeded in making the government aware of a need to identify and resolve regulatory problems in northern Canada.
