Readership Research: Reader Receives Maple Leaf Gold Coin as Prize

One lucky reader of Canadian Mining Journal has received a Maple Leaf gold coin in his mailbox, just for filling in and returning a questionnaire about the magazine. Starting with the April 1999 issue, we have been sending research questionnaires to a random selection from the circulation list. A significant number return the questionnaires, partly to let us know what they think of the issue, and partly (we assume) because we promised to place the names of the respondants in a draw for a prize.

We drew for the prize on January 14, and from the 62 names we came up with John Povhe, operations controller for Claude Resources Inc. in Saskatoon. After leaving three messages (unanswered) we finally reached him. When we told Mr. Povhe he was a winner, his reaction was, “You’re kidding me, right? Yeah, I remember there was a prize, but do you really mean I won it?” Yes, Virginia, … er, Mr. Povhe, there really is a prize at the end of the contest.
