VICTORIA — There will be no exploration or mining of either uranium or thorium in British Columbia. The government announced its opposition to uranium mining almost a year ago, in April 2008, and it has recently strengthened its decision.
An order-in-council, issued under the Environment and Land Use Act, has been passed to prohibit issuing an exploration permit for either uranium or thorium. Furthermore, no exemptions from the requirements for such a permit will be allowed.
