EDMONTON John Gartner of engineering firm GARTNER LEE has won the Robert F. Legget Medal for 2008. The prestigious award was made by the CANADIAN GEOTECHNICAL SOCIETY at its September conference in Edmonton.

Gartner founded Gartner Lee with Pat Lee in 1972. He is a registered professional engineering geologist in Ontario and is an accomplished geologist, teacher and author. He has held various positions on numerous boards and committees including past-chairman of the Minister's National Industrial Advisory Committee, past councillor of the Geological Association of Canada, past chairman of both the Engineering Geology Division of the Canadian Geotechnical Society and the Southern Ontario Section of the Canadian Geotechnical Society, as well he served as past VP for North America for the International Association of Engineering Geology and past president of the Canadian Geoscience Council.
