NEVADA - GOLDEN PREDATOR MINES of Vancouver is readying the 1,080-t/d tungsten mill at its Springer mine for startup by the end of 2008 in Pershing County. This will be the only tungsten mill in the United States.
The area produced tungsten intermittently from the 1920s through 1982. Golden Predator bought a 100% interest in 2006. The former owner, General Electric, spent US$71 million on the property between 1979 and 2006. The former mine has a 415-metre shaft, underground workings, a stockpile and a 900-t/d mill that produced tungsten, molybdenum and sulphide concentrates.
Milling capacity is being upgraded from 900 t/d to 1,080 t/d, and the crushing and milling circuits are operational, according to Golden Predator. The sulphide and scheelite flotation cells are online. Circuits that are currently being upgraded or rebuilt include regrind and thickening lines, the tungsten digester, moly precipitation, automated mill controls and the solvent extraction portion of the APT circuit. The mill will produce a scheelite concentrate.
