SASKATCHEWAN - The first underground bulk sample from the Orion South kimberlite at the Fort a la Corne joint venture (SHORE GOLD 60% and NEWMONT MINING 40%) has yielded 10 stones weighing more than one carat. The largest was 6.31 ct and another weighed 3.21 ct.
A total of 805 diamonds weighing 97.06 ct were recovered from the 605-tonne bulk sample. The average grade was estimated as 16.05 cpht. The sample was processed at the site through a DMS plant and then x-ray sorted. The sorted tails were additionally passed over a grease table.
In addition to shaft sinking (see CMJ Net News, Oct. 17, 2007), the Fort a la Corne joint venture is also engaged in large-diameter drilling on the K120 kimberlite that forms part of the Orion North kimberlite.
Maps and photos from the project are posted at www.ShoreGold.com.
