QUEBEC - Val-d'Or-based CANADIAN ROYALTIES last week began development of the Raglan South nickel project, and announced that it is changing the projects name to the "Nunavik nickel project". Management feels the new name takes into account the project's main commodity, its location, as well as the heritage of the Inuit of Northern Quebec. At the same time it has unveiled the project's logo (http://www.ccnmatthews.com/docs/nunaviknickel.pdf). (The bearish logo may be a comment on the future markets for nickel.)
Regarding ownership of the Nunavik project, Canadian Royalties currently holds a 100% interest in the Ivakkak deposit subject to a NSR, and a 70% interest and a 2% NSR in the Expo-Ungava property (which hosts the Mesamax, Mequillon and Expo deposits).
Robert Menard, P.Eng., has been appointed VP construction and engineering, and the Project Engineering and Construction team has been formed to manage the detailed engineering and the development of the project. The company is currently seeking a variety of staff to join the project team (see www.canadianroyalties.com/jobs).
Earlier this week, GENIVAR CONSULTING GROUP was awarded the detailed engineering contract for the mineral processing facilities including supporting the construction of the plant. As well, JERRY KAEHNE CONSULTING and GENIVAR will co-operate in the detailed engineering of the main and secondary power generation facilities. Procurement of long-lead equipment is underway including the diesel power generators, ball mills, mine camp, structural steel / piling, and the crushing system.
Nunavik will be an independent, stand-alone Ni-Cu-PGE mining and milling operation in the general vicinity of XSTRATA NICKEL's Raglan mine in Nunavik, Que. Canadian Royalties is proceeding with permitting applications, as well as exploring for additional resources.
