YUKON - Vancouver-based SHERWOOD COPPER has produced its first copper-gold concentrates from the Minto open pit mine, 240 km northwest of Whitehorse. Commissioning of various mill components is underway with low-grade (1.0-1.5% Cu) ore. Production from high grade material (2.0-4.0% Cu) will begin once the mill has been bedded down and is running satisfactorily.
The company expects the mill to reach a throughput of 2,400 t/d during Q3 2007, 50% above the original designed capacity. Further expansions are on the drawing board.
