QUEBEC - VICTORY NICKEL of Toronto has begun baseline environmental studies at its 100%-owned Lac Rocher nickel project, 140 km northeast of Matagami. The studies are part of the permitting process that will lead to the beginning of development at the high-grade, near-surface deposit next year.
Mining could begin nine months after the appropriate permits are issued when drifting reaches the high-grade portion of the orebody. The first phase includes mining 50,000 t of ore grading 4.06% Ni for direct shipment to a processor. Phase two will mine another 400,000 t of ore grading 1.57% Ni.
