QUEBEC - AURIZON MINES of Vancouver plans to resume gold production from its Casa Berardi mine near Joutel by the end of this month. The company says the reopened mine will produce 175,000 oz of gold a year at a cash cost of US$240/oz. Capital costs were $102.6 million.
As of Nov. 10, the mill was treating material from a stockpile of development ore as it ramped up to 1,600 t/d. As ore from underground reaches the mill, the rate will be bumped up to 2,200 t/d over the next year.
By the middle of the month, Aurizon expected to complete hoist commissioning, the main ventilation portal, and development of 15 out of 46 planned stopes. The cement plant and backfill system were also ready.
Aurizon (www.Aurizon.com) is conducting a program of definition drilling to expand mineral resources at Casa Berardi.
