NUNAVUT - Prime Minister Stephen Harper was on hand for the opening of the Jericho diamond mine 400 km northeast of Yellowknife, NT. The mine was developed and is owned by Toronto-based TAHERA DIAMOND CORP. It is Nunavut's first diamond producer, and the only mine currently operating in the territory.
Also present at the opening on Aug. 17 were Nunavut premier Paul Okalik, Canada's minister of Indian Affairs & Northern Development James Prentice, and a complement of Tahera executives and guests.
A photo of the ceremony is posted at www.Tahera.com.
Watch for the October issue of CMJ with Jane Werniuk's report based on her visit to Canada's third and newest diamond mine.
