Australia's GROUNDPROBE has received certification from the U.S. Federal Communication Commission (FCC) allowing application of GroundProbe's unique slope monitoring technology in North America. Two of the systems have already been shipped to customers in the United States and two others are being converted to long-term contracts. GroundProbe is setting up an office in Arizona to serve its North American customers.
The Slope Stability Radar technology works by using radar to continuously scan the walls of a mine, producing an immediate online measurement of movements of the wall with sub-millimetre precision across the entire area being monitored. Sophisticated software interprets and displays movements, and raises alarms should movement exceed geotechnical thresholds.
The Slope Stability Radar is rapidly becoming an essential tool in the mining industry. It not only allows for greater levels of safety to be achieved, but it also provides essential information for optimization of mine planning and productivity. The technology has continually demonstrated its capabilities and has helped mines to anticipate over 50 operational rock wall failures.
GroundProbe introduced the world's first Slope Stability Radar in May 2003 and now has systems deployed on four continents. More information is available from www.GroundProbe.com.
