LIEBHERR MINING EQUIPMENT of Newport News, Virginia, will begin delivery of nine new T282B diesel-electric haul trucks to SYNCRUDE's oil sands mine near Fort McMurray, Alta., this year. The trucks have a payload capacity of 360 tonnes, the largest available in the industry. They are powered by DDC/MTU 20V 400 engines rated at 3650 hp and equipped with AC drive systems. All have heated bodies to avoid dumping problems during winter cold.
Liebherr-Canada supplied six T282B trucks to Syncrude's North mine in 2003 and 2004.
