QUEBEC - Early drill results from the VC zone at the former Kiena gold mine near Val d'Or are "very encouraging", says Toronto-based WESDOME GOLD MINES. The company reports that the VC3 zone, only 500 metres north of the shaft, appears to be getting wider and richer at depth.
Definition drilling on the zone is proceeding from the 520-metre level. One hole returned a high grade of 20.89 g/t Au over 14.0 metres. Others assayed 3.8 g/t over 10.5 metres, 9.85 g/t over 17.0 metres and 4.09 g/t over 9.5 metres. The historic grade was 4.75 g/t during production from 1982 to 2002.
Wesdome is concentrating on underground exploration and development at Kiena in hopes of making a positive decision in the middle of 2005 to put the mine back in production. A 2,000-t/d carbon-in-leach mill and permitted tailings facilities have been maintained. A slide-show tour of Kiena and other projects is available at www.WesdomeGoldMines.com.
