QUEBEC - What is true about finding gold in a gold mine is also true of old silver in the Abcourt-Barvue mine near Val d'Or. ABCOURT MINES says it is very pleased with assays from the last seven holes drilled in the western part of the deposit.
Mineralization associated with the marker tuff averaged 172.70 g/t Ag and 2.24% Zn over a width of 6.52 metres. Abcourt is planning to take an 80,000-tonne bulk sample from an open pit in this area next summer.
The Barvue underground zinc mine operated at a milling rate of 3,200-tonnes/day from 1952-57. Abcourt purchased the property in 1985. The Abcourt-Barvue mine opened in 1985 and remained in production until 1990, when falling metal prices again forced closure. The mine, equipment, mill and infrastructure have been maintained at the site. Abcourt estimates the total resource on the property is 5.89 million tonnes grading 87.07 g/t Ag and 3.24% Zn.
