BRITISH COLUMBIA The Gibraltar mine, idled by low copper prices since 1998, will be shipping concentrate again by October 2004, says Vancouver-based TASEKO MINES. The re-opening will create about 290 new jobs.
All parts of the plan are going forward. Taseko management has purchased a new mining shovel, which should arrive at the mine site in June. Contracts have been arranged for the concentrate. Transportation and materials handling plans are proceeding in a timely fashion. Operating and staffing alternatives, either contracted or as a joint venture, are being discussed. When it was closed, Gibraltar had resources estimated at 745 million tonnes grading 0.3% Cu using a 0.2% Cu cut-off.
The Gibraltar copper mine is located near McLeese Lake, in south-central British Columbia. See the Taseko website at www.tasekomines.com.
