CHANDLER, Ariz. Mineral producers are familiar with the rugged environments in which hand-held or portable computers must function. Now there is one, the G-Force 850 from JLT MOBILE COMPUTERS, that offers REALLY rugged construction (even when dropped on concrete) and state-of-the-art computing capability.

The new tablet PC packs a lot into its 2.87 lb. The 8.4-inch (diagonal) poly-silicon transflective display automatically brightens for viewing in high direct sunlight and backlights for night time use. All types of wireless and/or radio modem communications are supported as well as GPS, CDMA, CDPD, GSM, GPRS or Bluetooth. It accepts a docking connector for multiple peripheral and power hook-ups.

The G Force 850 is loaded with the Windows XP Table PC embedded operating system. It features an x-shaped hand support for ease of use and recessed user controls. Options include various memory configurations and a 10-key pad for numeric data entry. Suggested operating temperatures range from 5 to +45C. The case is sealed to protect the unit from dust and low-pressure water jets, but with the cover closed it can withstand total immersion or a blast from a fire hose.
