Chibougamau, Quebec Work has resumed at the Copper Rand project with commercial gold and copper production expected by the end of 2004. CAMPBELL RESOURCES is earning a 76% share of the project and is the operator.
The owner, CORPORATION COPPER RAND, has invested $32 million in the project. Much of the money went to deepening the No.4 shaft to the 4,060-ft level and driving a ramp to the 4730 level. When it gets going, Copper Rand will boost Campbell's annual output to over 100,000 oz of gold and 20 million lb of copper.
The exploration history of the Copper Rand property goes back to 1910. It started its commercial life as a copper producer in 1959. Mining was suspended in 1997. The 3,000-tons/day mill on the property has a gravity circuit to recover gold and a flotation circuit to create a copper-gold concentrate. Campbell also operates the nearby Joe Mann mine. The company's website is at www.ressourcescampbell.com.
