JOUTEL, Quebec A significant zinc stringer zone has been discovered at the Kistabichie base metal property belonging to CANCOR MINES, which has an option from SOQUEM to earn a 50% interest in the property. Cancor is optimistic that the zone is linked to a massive sulphide lens. The property is also known to host felsic volcanic rocks that are associated with massive sulphide deposits found throughout the Abitibi mining camp.
Cancor drilled five holes at Kistabichie this summer. Hole Kist-03-07 undercut a massive sphalerite stringer zone at a depth of 500-518.7 metres. The best assays were 0.61% Zn over 16.7 m (including 1.29% over 3.62 m) and 0.79% Zn over 3.42 m. The stringer volume is in the 5% range and sphalerite varies between 1.0 and 10% over the intersection and massive sulphides within the stringers.
The Kistabichie property has an exploration history going back to 1959. It contains a 389-m shaft and 1,630-m of drifts. A geological resource estimate made in 1963 was 1.06 million tonnes grading 7.13% Zn, 0.69% Cu and 31 g/t Ag.
Cancor is a Montreal-based junior named 1998 Prospector of the Year by the Quebec Prospectors Association for its discovery of the Gemini base metal deposit. More information is available at www.cancor.ca.
