FORT McMURRAY, Alberta The heavy mineral content of SYNCRUDE's oil sands tailings is under investigation as a possible source of titanium-bearing minerals, zircon and garnet. Toronto-based TITANIUM CORP. has released the initial test results from 10 drums of sand solids. The approximate weighted average of total heavy mineral (THM) content was 30.38%.

Worldwide, the average THM content of minable deposits is 2-4%. Having raw material with better than 30% THM will favourably affect a commercial production decision. Moreover, Titanium Corp. will be spared the costs of dredging or mining the material. If the project is commercialized, the titanium-bearing minerals will be concentrated and sold to an unnamed major producer of titanium dioxide pigments.

Titanium Corp. has an exclusive two-year agreement with Syncrude and the pigment producer to jointly explore and develop this potential heavy mineral resource.
