FORT DE LA CORNE, Saskatchewan Bulk sampling of SHORE GOLD's Star diamond project is not too far in the future. Thyssen Mining Construction has begun sinking a 4.5-m diameter shaft. That will be followed by drifting in kimberlite to recovery up to 25,000 tonnes of material.

Sinking began earlier this month after the ground had been frozen. The concrete-lined shaft reached 18.2 m deep this week, completing the pre-sinking phase of the project. A three-stage Galloway platform and Cryderman mucker will be installed so that work can continue. The shaft will pass through about 100 m of overburden before reaching kimberlite.

A Bateman modular diamond recovery plant is being erected on site to assess the bulk sample.

Pictures of the shaft sinking are available at www.shoregold.com.
