QUEBEC – Toronto’s
Royal Nickel Corp. has completed a 300-tonne bulk sample test on ore from the Dumont nickel project 25 km west of Amos. The test created 2 tonnes of what Royal Nickel says is the highest grade nickel sulphide concentrate in the world – more than 31% Ni. (Reserves and resources at the Dumont project average 0.27% Ni.)
The previous high grade sulphide concentrate record was 25% Ni from samples of Voisey’s Bay ore from Labrador. Ordinarily, nickel concentrates are in the range of 10% to 15% Ni.
The sample was produced at a pilot plant at
SGS Minerals Services in Lakefield, ON. The sample will be roasted and then sent to potential customers in Asia and Europe.
Royal Nickel has asked the DF-Ausenco joint venture to bid on the EPC lump sum turnkey proposal not to exceed $911 million and covering 72% of the Dumont mine and mill development.
