DELTA, BC — After more than 12 months of discussion, SEI Industries has finally received approval for the use of its collapsible fabric fuel tanks in Nunavut from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) and Environment Canada. Environment Canada is currently drafting a technical guidance document that will provide details on design, installation and operation of fabric fuel storage systems in Canada. It will be available to the public in August 2009.

The same requirements for the installation, operation and maintenance would apply to collapsible fuel tanks as for other aboveground storage tanks. Operators will need to ensure their system include proper secondary containment, oil-water management systems, leak detection devices or procedures, overfill protection which may include identifying features already built into tanks and spill prevention devices in transfer areas.

SEI Industries makes the line of Arctic King™ collapsible fuel tanks. . They are lightweight and easily foldable to cut transport or relocation costs. Only minimal site preparation is required, and Arctic King tanks never rust or corrode. They are made from different types of polyurethane fabrics depending on where they are to be used and the type of fuel to be stored. They are used in the severe cold of Siberia, Baffin Island and Howards Pass.

SEI (www.SEI-ind.com) offers services and information packages to help operators using collapsible fuel tanks properly complete the Environmental Canada identification forms. Call 604-946- 3131 for your copy or visit the Environment Canada website at www.ec.gc.ca/st-rs.
